Two bodies have their masses M1 :M2 = 3 :1 & their Kinetic Energies E1 : E2 = 1 :3. Find the ratio of their velocities
Answer to be in a totally simplified form.
Thank You
body M1
KE1 = 1/2 *3*(M2)*v^2
body M2
KE 2= 1/2 (M2)*V^2
KE 2 = 3*KE1
1/2 (M2)*V^2 = 3*(1/2)*3*(M2)v^2
V^2 = 9v^2
V = 3v
please help me solve this problem V/v = 3
Ratio of velocity body 2 to body 1 is 3.
Given m1/m2 = 3/1
=>m1 = 3m2 ----------(i)
& E1/E2 = 1/3
=>E2 = 3E1
=>1/2m2v2^2 = 3 x 1/2m1v1^2
=>[v1/v2]^2 = [m2/3m1]
=>v1/v2 = √[m2/(3 x 3m2)]
=>v1/v2 = 1/3
=>v1:v2 = 1:3
Firstly write down the equation for kinetic energy:
E = 1/2 x M x v^2
rearrange for please help me solve this problemv,
v= SQRT(2E/M)
v1 is proportional to SQRT(2/3) = 0.82
v2 is proportional to SQRT(6/1) = 2.45
v1:v2 = 1 : 2.98
approximately = 1 :3
hope that helped
