I always thought it was common knowledge he suffered from vitiligo, a condition where the skin loses pigment and creates that "bleached" look he's so well known for. In 1993, MJ even told the world on the Oprah show that he had a skin disorder. His doctor later confirmed it was vitiligo as well. So how is it that 16 years later people are still confused about this?

It starts out with patches but it eventually grew. It's a CHRONIC condition, which means that it keeps occurring. There are two types of vitiligo. There is segmented vitiligo and non-segmented vitiligo. The difference is that segmented vitiligo only makes you have patches. Non-segmented (which Michael Jackson had) will have white patches that will cover all areas of your body.
And bleach is for clothing, not skin. You can't believe that everything you read on the Web is real. He never whitened his skin. That was a tabloid rumor started by the jealousy paparazzi.
People are saying that vitiligo doesn't look like that on people they know. Well he was a highly famous entertainer who had a look to upkeep. He used make up (That you could see very well) to cover up the blotches. To make himself look like 1 color. Obviously it got bad and he chose to even lighter.
I love Michael Jackson and i think that he did so much more with his life than most of us could ever dream of and had such a big impact on the world, but there is no doubt that he bleached his skin. Vitilgo makes the skin become patchy.
Even the 'white' patches are pink if you look carefully. Michael Jacksons skin was actually paler than that of a White person.
It shouldn't matter if he bleached his skin anyway. It's irrelevant when you take into consideration all of the amazing things that he achieved.
I've seen quite a few people with vitiligo, and it always makes their skin splotchy or dotted. I've never seen someone with vitiligo who's entire skin turns a different shade.

My sister has vitiligo. Even though it may cause white patches to occur, his skin is far whiter than it should be. Also it never cover all of a persons skin. People believed he bleached it because of how extremely white it is and that it is all over. He probably does suffer from vitiligo but after so much of him was white he just decided to bleach it all and make it even.
Because, he did bleach his skin. Yes he did have Vitiligo and he used Benoquin bleaching cream for it. The problem was he over used the product. You also need to stay out of the sun while using this product. Which is why he used to carried an umbrella and keep his face covered.
Vitiligo will not just evenly trun your skin pale. A doctor will prescribe a bleach agent to make it even. Have you even seen someone with the disease? They don't look like MJ.
Because his skin is very even colored all over to the same tint of white. Read up on him also. That coupled with all the plastic surgery. Making his nose small. Clearly he made drastic changes to himself. With enough money, he could have easily persuaded a doctor to say vitiligo
I honestly think he did indeed bleach his skin. The vitiligo or whatever is a cop out. Michael was the best indeed. But that doesn't make up for the fact he got a little out of hand with his money and previlegies at times. I have seen people with that disease...Most of the time it starts in your childhood years. Michael did not want people to know all his personal business in fear of his reputation. There was a lot we didn't know about Michael, trust me. But that does not change the fact he was a SPECTACTULAR!!! performer! And he saw soooooooooo much in his life. But he was troubled...Seriously troubled, and his family knew it for a loooooooooooooooooong time.
And his sister, Janet, just happened to have the same disease for awhile until she suddenly didn't? Maybe that stopped when she decided not to bleach her skin anymore.
You do know that some people, doctors included, will say anything for the right amount of money, don't you? It's true.michael jackson skin pigment disorderHell, people even lied at his hearing. Money buys a lot.
Because Michael was different and very misunderstood, and people fear what they don't know. He was labeled a freak and that would go along with that particular view of him (not one I share, BTW).

The medicine he takes to treat vitiligo lightens his skin tone all over. This looks very strange, so he uses pancake make-up to make his skin all one color-which just happens to be white.
I'm pretty sure after he was diagnosed, he went through treatments to make his skin tones appear more even so it wouldn't be blotchy from vitiligo.
I didn't know what it was called until I started watching the Boondocks. Uncle Ruckus has "Re-Vitiligo" which is the opposite of what Michael Jackson had.
Although I don't entirely disbelieve that MJ had Vitiglio, I think that he was evened out by having some skin bleaching done.
Someone just threw the theory that he did all the plastic surgery because he saw a resemblence to his father and wanted to get rid of it.

well I don't. MJ was truly diagnosed with vitiligo. Besides, I bet White people created this rumor to bump up their self esteem.
